Shauna Dunnings was born and raised in Lansing, and attended Lansing public schools. Shauna graduated from Howard University School of Law in Washington, DC, and returned home to practice law. As an attorney in private practice, Shauna represented hundreds of clients in family law, civil, and criminal matters. Shauna has been a licensed attorney for 27 years.
During her career, Shauna has actively participated in professional organizations committed to improving the legal system and access to justice. She has been elected by colleagues to serve as the President of the Ingham County Bar Association, and in 2017 she was elected to serve a second term as a Commissioner of The State Bar of Michigan. Shauna currently serves on the State Trial Court Funding Commission, and was on the Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect from 2003-2010.
Shauna has been married to Stuart Chavis for 25 years, and they have two children, ages 16 and 19.

The most valuable work of the Probate Court is the service it provides to our community’s children, families, and people who can’t protect themselves. Shauna is passionate about making sure our courts remain committed to protecting people under the court’s jurisdiction.

Shauna is committed to ensuring the Probate Court continues to provide the essential safety net, protecting individuals in need. If elected, Shauna will address people in court courteously, allow them to be heard, and will make decisions based upon the facts of the case and the law. She will give a voice to the voiceless.
